America the Beautiful Pass and More

Use America the Beautiful Pass and Passport To Your National Parks Booklet on Your Next National Park Visit

For anyone who is planning a trip to visit multiple National Parks or other federal public lands in the United States, I highly recommend purchasing an America the Beautiful Pass and a Passport To Your National Parks booklet.

Why Get an America the Beautiful Pass?

The America the Beautiful Pass is an interagency pass program, meaning since lots of federal agencies partner up, you get more access to federal lands, forests, parks, recreation areas, and wildlife refuges.

America the Beautiful Pass

The pass covers your entrance fees and daily use fees for driver and passengers that would otherwise be charged to you upon admittance. The pass is valid for a full year from purchase and costs $80 for the standard pass. Similar passes offered include a free military pass, free volunteer pass, free fourth grader pass, free access pass for permanently disabled individuals, and discounted senior pass at $20 annually or $80 for a lifetime pass.

If you plan on going to more than two National Parks or even any of the other places included within the year, then getting the pass is well worth it. Entry fees may vary, but some of the more popular parks like the Grand Canyon and Zion National Park have a weekly vehicle entry fee of $35. Even if you don't plan on making it to multiple National Parks, there are tons of other places to use the pass - for instance U.S. Army Corp of Engineers parks exist at lakes all over the country.

Why Get a Passport to Your National Parks booklet?

The Passport to Your National Parks booklet is a fun way to collect park specific stamps and cancellations for the dates you visited - similar to passport stamps when traveling to different countries. The standard pocket-size booklet is $9 but they have collectors editions and larger sizes of passport books available at a higher price also.

The booklet itself is very handy. It has a map of the country with all the National Parks shown, and from there the booklet is broken down by color coded regions, making it easier to find the location to put your stamp. Each section has a quick blurb about the parks and historic sites in that region.

Now, the fun part is collecting the stamps. You can find the location to ink-stamp your booklet for free at visitors centers corresponding to the park you are visiting. Enjoy getting new stamps marked in your booklet and look forward to ones you have yet to see.
