America the Beautiful Pass and More

Use America the Beautiful Pass and Passport To Your National Parks Booklet on Your Next National Park Visit For anyone who is planning a trip to visit multiple National Parks or other federal public lands in the United States, I highly recommend purchasing an America the Beautiful Pass  and a Passport To Your National Parks booklet. Why Get an America the Beautiful Pass? The America the Beautiful Pass is an interagency pass program, meaning since lots of federal agencies partner up, you get more access to federal lands, forests, parks, recreation areas, and wildlife refuges.  The pass covers your entrance fees and daily use fees for driver and passengers that would otherwise be charged to you upon admittance. The pass is valid for a full year from purchase and costs $80 for the standard pass. Similar passes offered include a free military pass, free volunteer pass, free fourth grader pass, free access pass for permanently disabled individuals, and discounted s...

Grand Canyon National Park

Winter Travel to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon In our journey this winter, we ventured from Las Vegas and Hoover Dam to Zion National Park and Horseshoe Bend . Although, lacking in places to stop, this road does offer some amazing scenery, foreshadowing more to come. A good place to get out and stretch the legs along this journey is at Cameron, before turn...

This amazing national park is located in southwestern Utah , and is about two and a half hours drive from Las Vegas . We spent more time than we thought we would at the Hoover Dam - a story for another post - so we didn't arrive at Zion until after dark. And when I say dark, I mean REALLY dark. The park itself has been designated an International Dark Sky Park , which provides for some amazing starry views on a clear night. Luckily, we were able to catch some good glimpses before the clouds rolled in. The next morning, we woke up early to catch the sunrise in the park. We were able to get some neat photographs as the clouds were still moving through. Imagine driving into someplace that is so dark, you really can't see your surroundings, and waking up to giant cliffs all around you. Needless to say, the ...
