Indianapolis - Drinking, Dining, and Dessert
Must-Try Restaurants in Indianapolis
The Indianapolis food scene offers a variety of delicious restaurants to try, so of course we didn't try them all in our recent trip. But we sure did our best to try as many as we could. Here are some that we truly enjoyed, both in downtown Indy and in Zionsville, that I highly recommend.
Burger Study
Another hit restaurant by restaurateurs Steve and Craig Huse. The same team behind the famous St. Elmo Steakhouse and fine dining establishment Harry and Izzy's, does phenomenal burgers in an atmosphere themed as a college library. Located in downtown Indianapolis at the Circle Centre Mall, this is a must-try burger joint. Wanting great quality food in a more casual environment than a fancy steakhouse? This is the place for you.
Shapiro's Delicatessen
Located in downtown Indy, near Lucas Oil Stadium - Home of the Colts - Shapiro's Deli is serving up delicious Reuben and pastrami sandwiches, fresh bagels, and much more. We dined in for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed our sandwiches. You will definitely not leave hungry with how high they stack the meat. A longstanding Indianapolis tradition, and highly ranked as one of the top Jewish delis in the U.S., you've got to stop by for yourself, even if for carryout.
Sun King Brewery
Looking for some great craft beers? Well, Sun King Brewery has many locations to choose from and a wide selection of beers available. I was very impressed with the variety of beer styles on draft and even more so that each style was done so well. Whether you want heavy, light, sweet, sour, hoppy, or just a lawn mowing beer, Sun King has something for you. One of my favorite things was how they display the flags for the beers on draft, with the can art and a snippet of information.
Traderspoint Creamery
Located in Zionsville, this gem was the first certified organic dairy farm in Indiana. It is safe to say you can't go wrong with getting artisanal cheese or ice cream to enjoy from the dairy bar. Additionally, the upper level has both indoor and outdoor seating for their farm-to-table restaurant. Ingredients for their menu come both from their farm and other local farms they partner with. Let me tell you, the food here is divine. You better make reservations for this popular dining destination, as spots fill up quickly, especially with current reduced capacity seating. Most definitely worth your while.
Rosie's Place
While Rosie's Place night not be in any top ten list of places to eat, if you are looking for comfort food, look no further. Serving up breakfast, lunch, and baked goods, I definitely recommend stopping by or even getting your food to-go. A local favorite, there is a reason there are now three locations in the Northwest Indianapolis suburbs. Lots of great breakfast options, including several with a south-of-the-border twist.
I sincerely hope you are able to get out and try one or all of these places, support local restaurants, and eat delicious food. I promise you won't regret it. Cheers!
